Doctors complain to Columbia about Dr. Oz
Update April 21, 2015- By Steven E. Greer, MD
As a direct result of our posting of the letter, below, the New York Times then national TV news have picked up this story. The bad press forced Dr. Oz to make a statement on his TV show that he “Will not be silenced by these 10 doctors.”.
Well, Dr. Oz, I have some news for you. It is not just “10 doctors” who think you are a quack. The full list includes ranking members of the U.S. Senate and thousands of surgeons and physicians who watch CurrentMedicne.TV.
You are a man who became drunk with fame and decided to do anything it took to get TV ratings. You also seemed to have not understood evidenced-based medicine since your early days at Columbia, according to your surgical supervisors.
You are yet another creation of Oprah Winfrey that has run amok. It is time for you to stop practicing surgery and to stop leveraging your medical degree for the purposes of becoming a paid spokesman for companies like Sony.

Lee Goldman, M.D.
Dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine
Columbia University
Dear Dr. Goldman:
I am writing to you on behalf of myself and the undersigned colleagues below, all of whom are distinguished physicians.
We are surprised and dismayed that Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons would permit Dr. Mehmet Oz to occupy a faculty appointment, let alone a senior administrative position in the Department of Surgery.
As described here and here, as well as in other publications, Dr. Oz has repeatedly shown disdain for science and for evidence-based medicine, as well as baseless and relentless opposition to the genetic engineering of food crops. Worst of all, he has manifested an egregious lack of integrity by promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain.
Thus, Dr. Oz is guilty of either outrageous conflicts of interest or flawed judgments about what constitutes appropriate medical treatments, or both. Whatever the nature of his pathology, members of the public are being misled and endangered, which makes Dr. Oz’s presence on the faculty of a prestigious medical institution unacceptable.
Sincerely yours,
Henry I. Miller, M.D.
